Windsor Acquires Grubauer, Cantin and Johnston from Belleville Bulls

(Windsor) Windsor Spitfires Vice-President and General Manager Warren Rychel today announced that the Spitfires have acquired goaltender Philipp Grubauer, defenseman Marc Cantin, centre Stephen Johnston and a 15th round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection from the Belleville Bulls.

In exchange, the Spitfires have sent centre Richard Panik, defenseman Paul Bezzo, right-winger Austen Brassard, goaltender Stephen Gleeson as well as a third round pick in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection and a second round pick in 2012 (both originally from Owen Sound) to the Bulls. Windsor also sent their seventh round pick in the 2012 draft and 15th round picks in 2011 and 2013 to Belleville.

“Today’s deal was a tough one for our organization, as we traded three quality players off of our current roster but we strengthened our lineup for the playoffs in acquiring Grubauer, Cantin and Johnston. This deal also solidifies our situation for overage players next season and also strengthens our bid to host the 2011 Memorial Cup, as Cantin and Johnston could fill two of our overage spots in the 2010-2011 season,” said Warren Rychel.

The defending 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup and OHL Champions will face off against the Saginaw Spirit this Thursday at the WFCU Centre. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Fans are encouraged to show their support for the Spitfires’ 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup bid by filling out a ballot at the game or by visiting windsorspitfires.com.
