Hall Scores Hat-Trick Over Slovakia, Named Canada’s Player of the Game in Canada’s 8-2 Win at 2010 IIHF WJHC

USA Defeats Latvia 12-1

(Saskatoon) Earlier tonight, Spitfire forward Taylor Hall enjoyed a breakout game as he scored a hat-trick and added one assist in Canada’s 8-2 win against Slovakia at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Saskatoon, SK. Hall also scored the game-winning goal for Canada midway through the first period and was selected as the Canadian player of the game for his outstanding performance. Spitfire defenseman Ryan Ellis also scored one goal and registered an assist in Canada’s win.

Spitfire forward Richard Panik scored one goal for Slovakia and he has scored at least one goal in each game of the WJHC preliminary round.

With the win, Canada improves their perfect record to 3-0 in the Group A pool of the preliminary round and they have secured a berth in the WJHC playoff quarterfinals.

Earlier today, USA defeated Latvia 12-1 and also improved their perfect record to 3-0 in the Group A pool of the preliminary round, which also guarantees the Americans a berth in the WJHC playoff quarterfinals.

The much anticipated matchup between Canada and USA for the top spot in the Group A standings will take place on New Year’s Eve at 8 pm EST. Spitfire and Team Canada forwards Taylor Hall, Adam Henrique, Greg Nemisz and defenseman Ryan Ellis will take on Spitfire teammate and Team USA defenseman Cam Fowler as well as future teammate, and Team USA netminder Jack Campbell. The winner of the final game in the Group A pool of the preliminary round will have a bye until the WJHC playoff semi-finals. The game will be broadcast live on TSN.

Slovakia, featuring Spitfire forward Richard Panik will face Switzerland on New Year’s Eve at 4 pm EST. The winner of this game will secure a berth in the WJHC playoff quarterfinals.
