He's been a steady force helping guide a young team this season.

And for his outstanding performance in December, Stephen Johnston is the Precision Jewellers Player of the Month.

A big contributor to last year's Memorial Cup Champions, Johnston has been solid again in 2010-2011, enjoying his best month of production in December.

The 20-year-old had points in nine of 10 games while putting up four goals and 10 assists and a plus-3 rating last month, despite the responsibility of shutting down the opposition's top centre on a nightly basis.

For the season, Johnston is tied for fifth in team scoring, with nine goals and 23 assists.

He's also second - behind newly-acquired winger Jeff Brown - with 60 penalty minutes.

Prior to a Spitfires home game in January, Johnston will receive a Bulova watch from Dan Thomas of Precision Jewellers, in recognition of his excellent play.
