They were bound to be tired today.
After 16 hours of travel, and two games in 24 hours, the Spits faced a tough Kingston club at home on Sunday afternoon.
But despite some noticeable fatigue, the Spits rolled four lines and bombarded former teammate Philipp Grubauer with 43 shots, in a 3-1 win, to sweep all three games of a big eastern road trip.
Stephen Johnston had a pair of goals, including the winner and Zack Kassian scored on the power play, as the Spitfires (24-15-1-1) raised their road record to 11 wins and 10 losses on the season.
Michael Fine opened the scoring in the first period, banging home a Ryan Spooner rebound of the power play.
But a pair of quick goals put the Spits up for good in the late stages of the frame.
Zack Kassian scored his 19th of the season on the power play, spinning and firing in the slot in front of Philipp Grubauer to tie the game at 1-1. Then, just 13 seconds later, Stephen Johnston made it 2-1 Spits.
A tight-checking middle period featured some big saves from Grubauer and Spits goalie Jack Campbell.
The Spits kept the pressure on the Fronts in the third. And it was Johnston that put the game out of reach, scoring just after the mid-period break with a wraparound shot that slid under Grubauer.
