Coming off a big win against one of the country's best teams in Ottawa on Friday, the biggest thing the Spitfires had to battle the following night in Belleville was a letdown.
A six-goal first period took of that, as the Spitfires put up a season-high in goals in an easy, 10-2 win.
Tom Kuhnhackl and Alexander Khokhlachev each had a pair of goals, Jake Carrick continued his hot play with a goal and three assists and Taylor Carnevale had a goal and two helpers as the Spitfires (23-15-1-1) pulled within four points of the Kitchener Rangers for third in the Western Conference.
Brady Vail's first of the season proved to be the game winner.
SLOW START, BIG FINISH
After former Spitfire and Windsor native Austen Brassard opened the scoring for Belleville just a couple minutes in, the Spits scored six times in 14 minutes, to take a commanding 6-2 lead into the first intermission.
Khokhlachev's second of the game and 22nd of the season made it 7-2 on the opening shift of the second period.
With the game well in hand, John Cullen came on in relief of Jack Campbell for his first action since coming over from the Sarnia Sting.
The overmatched Bulls never threatened to get back in it.
Taylor Carnevale and Zack MacQueen scored in a 10-second span late in the third period to make it 9-2. Jeff Brown rounded out the scoring with this ninth of the year at 18:11.
Luke Judson had his 18th goal of the season in a losing cause for Belleville.
