(Windsor) Overage right-winger Dale Mitchell is the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week as selected by the Spitfires coaching staff for the week ending Sunday, March 14th, 2010. In three games last week, Mitchell scored two goals and added three assists for five points. This is the second time that Mitchell has been named the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week this season, as he previously earned the honour for the week ending December 20th, 2009.
On Thursday, Mitchell scored the game winning goal and added one assist as he led the CHL’s #3 ranked team to a 6-4 victory over the Plymouth Whalers at the WFCU Centre. This win secured Windsor’s second consecutive OHL Western Conference regular season championship in as many seasons. The following night, he registered two assists in Windsor’s 4-3 overtime loss on the road to the CHL’s #8 ranked London Knights. On Saturday, in Windsor’s last regular season game, Mitchell scored one goal as the Sarnia Sting defeated the Spitfires 8-3 in Sarnia.
Mitchell, a 20 year-old native of Mississauga, Ontario, was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the third round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He is in his second season with the Windsor Spitfires and has scored 16 goals with 27 assists for 43 points and a +20 plus/minus rating in 32 games for the Spitfires during the regular season.
