Windsor Blows Out Erie for the Sweep
By Chris Lucas
In Play Magazine
Windsor eliminated Erie with a four game sweep today as they beat the Otters 5-1.
Taylor Hall started off the scoring for Windsor to get a great start to game four. But Anthony Luciani answered back with a goal of his own as it seemed we were in for another nail biter. However Eric Wellwood put one in and the Spits would not look back from there. Hall would add another goal for Windsor to go into the second.
Scott Timmins started off the second with a short handed goal as Windsor was now in a dominating lead and had all the momentum. Adam Wallace then scored a beautiful wrap-around goal and that was enough for a Spitfire victory and sweep.
Harry Young let loose tonight. He is considered one of, if not the best fighters in the OHL and tonight he got in two scraps. After not fighting in the whole series tonight he let loose and fought Luciani and Jeremy Gottzmann. This could be a good intimidation factor for Windsor going into the next and later rounds.
Tonight's In Play! Magazine player of the game is Zack Kassian. He had a three assist night and was another big intimidation. Although this is nothing new but it still is a factor in every game.
Windsor now waits for the Sault Ste. Marie and Plymouth series to finish to see who they will play. Plymouth currently leads the series 3-1 as they will play game five tomorrow in Plymouth.

Greg Nemisz Injury Update
By Chris Lucas
In Play Magazine
Two weeks ago, Greg Nemisz was cut by a skate and was rushed to the hospital to get 40 stitches on the upper leg.
Head Coach Bob Boughner said his status is day-to-day, but chances are he will not play in their upcoming game against Erie on Thursday. Boughner said if he doesn’t come back Thursday, he will return in the next series for sure.
The six-foot-four, 200 pound power forward has contributed 34 goals and 36 assists for 70 points in 51 games played this season.
Nemisz has been a solid winger for Windsor and the Spits could use his help in the playoffs. When he comes back, this will add a big strong forward with soft hands that isn’t afraid to play the body.

Windsor Pulls Out Game Three Win - Big Time Shoot Out!
By Chris Lucas
In Play Magazine
Windsor blew a three goal lead but they were still able to pull out a win as the beat the Erie Otters 7-6 and make the series 3-0 for the Spits.
The Spits started off the game with a five-on-three power play where Justin Shugg and Taylor Hall scored on both penalties to give Windsor a 2-0 lead. Then Windsor was given another power play and Mark Cundari back handed one top shelf.
Unlike the first period, the second was more Erie lopsided. Starting off with an amazing goal from Greg McKegg as he dangled through two defenders and roofed the puck over Philipp Grubauer. Then back to back goals from Derek Holden and Brett Cook would tie this game up. But Kenny Ryan ended all momentum as he banged home a rebound. Immediately after, Mike Cazzola scored by putting in his own rebound. Minutes later, the Spits would once again take the lead as Zack Kassian roofed home a rebound.
Hall scored his second of the game in the third that would put the Spits ahead by two. Shawn Szydlowski scored on a weak shot from the blue line and Cazzola just put one by Grubauer. But seconds later, Stephen Johnston threw the puck on the net and it got by Ramis Sadikov and that would be enough to give Windsor the win.
Tonight's In Play! Magazine player of the game goes to Kenny Ryan as he scored a big goal stopping Erie's momentum and boosting Windsor. He also caused a lot of controversy in front of Erie's net.
Ryan tells In Play! of his goal, “I just drove to the net, stopped there and luckily got a stick on the puck and put it in.”
On Thursday, Windsor will have the opportunity to sweep Erie. The game will start at 7 p.m.

Philipp Grubauer It's Official
By Chris Lucas
In Play Magazine
All season long, it has been a debate if Troy Passingham would be able to handle playoff hockey.
Then the Spitfires acquired Philipp Grubauer from the Belleville Bulls in a trade. From there it was a battle of goaltenders. A week before the playoffs, people wondered if Passingham was going to get a shot in net during the playoffs.
Passingham had a good season, but after watching the first two games against Erie, Grubauer has proven to everyone, that he should and more than likely will play the majority of the playoffs.

Windsor Wins in Goalie Showdown
By Chris Lucas
In Play Magazine
The Spitfires take a commanding 2-0 lead over the Erie Otters as they defeated them today 3-1.
The Erie Otters started the game off by applying a lot of pressure on Windsor in the first. But with help from Philipp Grubauer, Windsor was able to keep the game tied until Taylor Hall deflected Marc Cantin's shot late in the period to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second, Zack Torquato was able to find the back of the net and tie the game at one. With the Erie fans screaming loud, Dale Mitchell found a way to silence them as he rifled a shot in and would send the Spits with the lead going into the third.
With scoring opportunities going back and forth in the third, Grubauer remained solid long enough for Hall to pot his second of the game and give the Spits the win.
Today's In Play! Magazine player of the game goes to Grubauer for his amazing performance. He had 30 saves on 31 shots and really held Windsor in it. There were a lot of times where Erie should have taken the lead, but Grubauer was able to hold on to the lead and help the Spitfires take a 2-0 lead in the series. He played the way a goalie should play in the playoffs and that's exactly what Windsor needs.
Windsor will host Erie at the WFCU Centre on Tuesday. Game three will start at 7 p.m.

Windsor Shines in Game One VS The Erie Otters
By Chris Lucas
In Play Magazine
Windsor takes game one against the Erie Otters as they defeat them at the WFCU Centre 6-2.
This was a Windsor-based game as they started the scoring and didn't stop. Justin Shugg potted the first one of the series and the only one of the period to give Windsor the early jump.
Greg McKegg scored for Erie to tie things up in the second but it went downhill for Erie from there. Starting with Dale Mitchell, then Zack Kassian, then really putting the lead out of hand as Adam Henrique also put one in and the Spits would go to the third with a huge 4-1 lead.
Henrique wouldn't wait much longer before adding another goal in the third. Anthony Luciani would score for Erie but Marc Cantin would score to put this game out of reach and give Windsor the win.
Windsor was an all out attack team tonight as they played really strong and performed great in front of their home crowd. They more than doubled Erie in shots as they beat them 46-21.
Tonight's In Play! Magazine player of the game goes to Henrique. The over ager led the team like he`s supposed to do as he scored two goals and had one assist.
Windsor will play game two in Erie on Sunday. Game time will start at 4:30 p.m.

London Squeezes Out OT Win Verse Windsor
In Play Magazine
The London Knights defeated the Windsor Spitfires in over time at the John Labatt Centre 4-3.
It almost took two full periods before Scott Timmins found the back of the net to put Windsor up 1-0.
Early in the third, Jared Knight put home the rebound to finally put the Knights on the board and tie this game at one. Following these goals, both teams started throwing their weight around a lot more than they had the entire game. Nazem Kadri would be the next to score as he taps in the wide open net. Seconds later, Adam Henrique fired in the rebound and the game would be tied up once again. Knights Captain, Justin Taylor roofed one past Philipp Grubauer. But Justin Shugg would score on a weak back hander that would send this game to over time.
After great scoring chances from both teams, it seemed that this game was going into a shootout until Kadri sneaked the puck past Grubauer with under a minute left to give the Knights the over time win.
Windsor looked a little tired and sluggish heading into over time tonight. Even though they were missing Taylor Hall and Ryan Ellis as they were being rested. But on the plus side, Windsor showed they can compete without those two players verse a very talented London team.
Tonight's In Play! Magazine player of the game goes to Michael Houser as he made 43 saves on 46 shots. He stretched from one side of the crease to the other to make a save multiple times tonight and that will earn Wim tonight's In Play! Magazine player of the game.
Windsor will continue their road trip to Sarnia to play the Sting tomorrow. Game time will start at 7:30 p.m.

Taylor Hall caught Tyler Seguin in the OHL points race tonight as the Windsor Spitfires defeated their rival Plymouth Whalers 6-4.
Robbie Czarnik started the scoring off for Plymouth to take a 1-0 lead. Seconds later, Colin MacDonald scored his first of the year, giving the Whalers an early two goal lead. But Justin Shugg stopped their momentum as he scored an important break away goal. Czarnik, then scored his second of the night, which would send Plymouth into the second with the lead.
The second started the same as the first with a goal from Tyler Brown. But it was all Windsor from there, as Ryan Ellis rifled a one-timer from the point. Ellis then scored another one on the power play bringing Windsor within one.
Hall scored an important game tying goal in the third. Followed up by Dale Mitchell crashing the net and finishing the loose puck. Hall was given the assist on the goal, which would tie him for points in the OHL with 105. Zack Kassian buried another quick one to finish off the Whalers.
Windsor made an amazing comeback tonight that showed a lot of effort from the Windsor team. It was also a big night for Hall as he finally caught up to Seguin in the OHL points lead race. But a loss for Windsor as Czarnik hit Mark Cantin from behind. He had a stiff neck and was brought to the hospital after the game.

Tonight's In Play! Magazine player of the game goes to Ellis. He had a two goal night and was physical while throwing his weight around. He almost rocked Plymouth's goal scorer Seguin.
The Spits will travel to London tomorrow. Game time will start at 7:30 p.m.

Windsor Spitfires Shut Out the Soo
By Chris Lucas
In Play Magazine
This match-up between Windsor and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds didn't have the same outcome as last time they played as Windsor defeated the Greyhounds 4-0.
The first period told the whole story of the game as Windsor came out flying. First Justin Shugg's shot trickled through Robin Lehner's legs on the power play. Then Taylor Hall's shot did the exact same thing as they took a 2-0 lead. The first period was summed up like this, Windsor won in shots, scoring, time on attack and even won in the fighting category.
No action in the second led to another Spitfire period in the third. Cam Fowler scored on a blasting slap shot from the point. Then Fowler scored his second as he deflected Hall's pass to take a commanding lead.
Today's game was once again dirty. But this isn't something unusual because every time these teams face one another it's always a rough game. Today also hosted the return of Zack Kassian. He helped Windsor in this one because he brings the intimidation factor to their side.
Today's In Play! Magazine player of the game was Fowler. He scored two goals and added an assist. He was the type of player that was doing everything right while he was on the ice today.
Windsor will play the rival Whalers on Thursday as they enter the last week of their regular season. It will be at the WFCU Centre and game time will start at 7 p.m.

By Chris Lucas

The Windsor Spitfires blew out the Saginaw Spirit 7-1 with only a few games left before playoffs.

Early in the second, Henrique sniped one home to pick up the hat-trick. Then Taylor Hall would finish the tic-tac-toe play to give Windsor a three point lead. A few shifts later, Hall took a beating and worked really hard fighting off two defenseman and it paid off as he scored his second. Scott Timmins would take a blistering one-timer to take a huge 6-1 lead.

Tonight the Spits tripled Saginaw in shots as they beat them 57-19. That is very important and will be a big factor come playoff time.
