Ryan Ellis scored a hat-trick to help Windsor beat the Frontenacs 9-2.
Ellis got the game going as he smashed in the one-timer to open the scoring. The Spits would take a 2-0 lead when Adam Henrique drove in the rebound. The Spits would have a 2-0 lead going into the second.
Kingston would close the gap to one in the second as Derek Froats scored. Immediately after, Harry Young ripped a shot from the point to extend the lead. It went up hill for Windsor from there as Ellis scored two more, Paul Bezzo added a goal, Wellwood roofed one and Dale Mitchell deflected the puck top corner. The Spits would fly into the third 8-1.
The Spits picked up where they left off as Greg Nemisz scored his 22nd of the season. Alan Quine from Kingston would add one more goal to end the game. The final shots on goal were 60-23 for Windsor.
The second period was an ugly one as Kingston started to throw a lot of cheap shots. Including cheap shoves in front of the net, taking runs and a few fists being thrown. However, the tough Windsor team stood their ground and fought back.
In Play! Spoke to Ellis after the game and he says, “We tried to get in there with them but it's fine because it's a Windsor style of hockey.”
In Play! Magazine player of the game goes to Ryan Ellis. Ellis scored his first, second and third goal of the year and recorded a hat-trick in today's game. He also played very well on the penalty kill clearing the puck multiple times.
Ellis tells In Play!, “It's good to finally score. I've has some bad luck hitting a few posts but it's good to get the ball rolling.”
Windsor has a nice long break as they don't play until next Saturday. They will travel to Peterborough and game time is set to start at 7 pm.
