Spitfires Slide By Peterborough With Another Win

Windsor defeats Peterborough in a shoot-out tonight by the score of 3-2.

Liam Heelis jumped off to an early start as he made no mistake in tucking home the rebound. However half way through the first, Adam Henrique flew down the right wing and sniped a shot over Jason Missiaen and into the net to tie it up.

It was a real quite start to the first half of the second period until Matt Puempel turned the puck over at the Spits blue line that sent him on a break away where he would score to once again, give Peterborough a one goal lead. It didn't take long to answer back as Justin Shugg hustled down the ice and fed a pass to Dale Mitchell that gave him an open net and he put it away to send both teams tied going into the third.

The third period favored Peterborough more than Windsor as it kicked off with Jamie Wise getting in a tilt with Saverio Posa. Wise won that fight and got the Peterborough bench fired up. But no one scored sending this game into overtime.

Drop of the puck sparked the Spits offense. In the first minute of extra hockey, the Spitfires had two chances to end the game, but Missiaen came up huge and kept Peterborough's hopes alive. A minute later, Ryan Ellis walked in and riffled a shot off the post. But the puck stayed out of the net and these teams will be going to a shoot-out.

First shot was Mitchell. He came blazing in and scored. Ryan Spooner also scored for Peterborough. Second round Hall shot and scored. Puempel got denied by Troy Passingham. A goal from Ellis and this would end the game. Ellis came in and scored to finish off the game and give the Spits the win. The final shots on goal were 41-28 for Windsor.

The Spitfires have not been a team that has won much in shoot-outs. On the other hand Missiaen, has not allowed a goal in a shoot-out yet this year. Sure enough, all three Spits scored on him.

Head Coach of Windsor, Bob Boughner spoke to In Play! and says, “We have been practicing more on shoot-outs. It helps to have Mitchell back and Hall has improved too.”

Tonight's In Play! Magazine player of the game goes to Dale Mitchell who scored the game tying goal and opened the scoring in the shoot-out to help pick up the victory for the Spitfires.

The Spits will be at home again on Sunday as the take on Kingston. Game time will start at 2 pm.
