Plymouth Whalers vs. Windsor Spitfires
With the return of Dale Mitchell, the Windsor Spitfires sneak a win by the Plymouth Whalers as they defeat them 4-2.
Mitchell started off the game with a couple of quick hits and a great scoring opportunity. However he couldn't find the back of the net so that allowed Myles McCauley to open the games scoring with a one-timer. The Spits go into the second down by one.
Windsor continued to apply pressure into the second period until Spits goaltender, Troy Passingham, gave the puck away to Garrett Meurs of Plymouth, where he would put one past Passingham to take a two goal lead. One minute later, Adam Henrique rippled the mesh as he took advantage of the extra man on the power play to bring the lead within one. This would send Windsor to the third down by one, but with a lot the momentum.
Windsor sparked their offense early in the third as Taylor Hall scored to tie the game up. With time running out and both teams trying to pull out a win, Justin Shugg of the Spitfires, knocked in Mark Cundari's shot to take the lead. An empty net goal from Henrique would lock up the win for Windsor.
The score may have been close but a big factor in hockey is shots for and against. The Windsor Spitfires always get a lot of shots and today not only did they rack up the shots, but they didn't allow much either. They finished the game with 49 shots on net and 16 against.
Bob Boughner, Windsor Spitfires Head Coach tells In Play!, “When we were playing five-on-five, we played well defensively.”
Tonight’s In Play! Magazine player of the game goes to Adam Henrique as he potted his 17th and 18th goals of the year tonight. He has scored at least one goal in each of his last five games.
