windsorspitfires.com staff reports
The coaching staff wanted to spend more time in the offensive end last week.
KoKo seems to have heard the message loudest.
Alexander Khokhlachev is the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday January 30th.
Khokhlachev (5G, +4) scored in a 5-4 shootout loss to Plymouth on Thursday night, before exploding for four goals in a 7-1 win over the Rangers in Kitchener the following night.
The 17-year-old, 5'10", 172-pound centre from Moscow has been outstanding in his first year in the OHL, with 28 goals and 31 assists. Incredibly, Khokhlachev has played all but one game this season.
Those numbers rank him second in goals and points among rookies, behind only countryman Nail Yakupov (35G, 70pts).
Khokhlachev has been in the Top-20 in overall league scoring for the majority of the season.
He's currently 19th.
Next up for the Spitfires is a date with Justin Shugg, Marc Cantin and the CHL's #2 ranked team, the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors.
