Spitfires’ Game Notes – 2010 OHL Playoff Game Two, Round Two

Game Recap

- With tonight’s 5-3 win, Windsor takes a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference Semi-Finals of the 2010 OHL Playoffs. Windsor outshot the Whalers 56 to 26 in the contest and has won their first six playoff games of the 2010 post-season.

- Forward Dale Mitchell scored two goals in the contest, including the game-winner 5:05 into the third period and was selected as the game’s First Star. He has four goals and four assists in six Spitfire playoff games and is tied for second on the team’s goal scoring list and tied for third overall in team scoring during the playoffs.

- Scott Timmins played a strong two-way game for the Spitfires and was named the Third Star of the game. This is the second consecutive game that Timmins has been recognized in the three star selections for this series.

- Goaltender Philipp Grubauer wins his sixth consecutive game of the playoffs, stopping 23 of 26 shots in tonight’s win. He is ranked fifth in the OHL with a 2.37 goals against average and leads the OHL with six wins during the playoffs.

- Forward Taylor Hall scored one goal tonight and setup Mitchell’s game winning tally in the third period, registering an assist on the play. Hall has enjoyed multi-point performances in each of Windsor’s six playoff wins and he has scored at least one goal in five of Windsor’s six games. Hall is currently ranked first in the OHL with nine goals and leads the entire league with a +10 plus-minus rating. He is also tied for second in the OHL with 14 points in the playoffs and second in scoring during this series with four points in two games.

- Defenceman Ryan Ellis registered three assists in the game, leading all Spitfire scorers in the contest. He is leading the series in scoring with six points in two games. Ellis is ranked first amongst all OHL defencemen, second on the Spitfire and sixth in league scoring with 12 points in six games. He also leads all defencemen and is tied for second in the league with 11 assists. Ellis has recorded points in each of the Spitfires six playoff games, posting multi-point performances in his past four games.

- Forwards Adam Henrique and Eric Wellwood scored one goal each in Windsor’s victory. Henrique is tied for second on the Spitfires with four goals during the playoffs and second in this series with four points in two games. He is also tied for third in team scoring with eight points in six games.

- Defencemen Marc Cantin is tied for fourth in the OHL’s plus-minus department with a +8 during the playoffs and rearguard Mark Cundari is tied for seventh with a +7. Cundari is also ranked fourth amongst all OHL defencemen in scoring with seven points in six games.

- Windsor scored one power play goal on two opportunities tonight. The team’s power play is ranked second overall in the OHL, operating at a 31% clip during the playoffs.

- Windsor killed both of Plymouth’s power play opportunities tonight. The Spitfires are first in the OHL, killing 91.2% of their penalties during the playoffs.

- Forward Stephen Johnston missed the game due to injury.
