(Windsor) Earlier today, the City of Windsor and the Windsor Spitfires presented their bid with the hopes of hosting the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup in Windsor. The presentation was conducted in Toronto at the Delta Toronto East Hotel. The City of Windsor and Windsor Spitfires were represented by Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis and members of the Windsor Spitfires staff including President and Head Coach Bob Boughner, Vice-President and General Manager Warren Rychel, Governor Peter Dobrich and Director of Business Development Steve Horne.
The OHL’s Barrie Colts, Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors and Kingston Frontenacs were also on hand to make presentations to the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup Selection Committee, which included President of the Toronto Blue Jays and former CEO of Major League Baseball Paul Beeston, former NHL Executive Frank Bonello, Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations for the NHL Jim Gregory and NHL Director of Central Scouting EJ McGuire. CHL and OHL Commissioner David Branch and OHL Legal Counsel Gord Kirke were also on hand for the presentations.
During today’s presentation, the City of Windsor and Windsor Spitfires discussed Windsor’s strengths, experience in hosting large entertainment and sporting events as well as the community’s desire to bring the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup to Windsor.
“I truly believe that we brought the entire community of Windsor and surrounding area with us to Toronto today as we made our formal presentation to the Memorial Cup Committee”, commented Bob Boughner, ”we brought a true Windsor flavour and all components of the presentation were very well received.”
The MasterCard Memorial Cup Selection Committee will select the winning city during the week of May 3, 2010. Windsor’s Memorial Cup Host Committee is hopeful that their efforts will bring the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup to the City of Windsor.
