Adam Henrique – The Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week

In Play Magazine

(Windsor) Centre Adam Henrique is the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week as selected by the Spitfires coaching staff for the week ending Sunday, April 18th, 2010. In three games last week, Henrique scored three goals in the Rogers Western Conference Championship Series against the Kitchener Rangers. This is the third time in the 2009-2010 campaign that Henrique has secured the team’s player of the week honour, including the week ending October 4th, 2009, during which he was named the OHL and Spitfires Player of the Week.

On Thursday, Henrique did not register a point as the Spitfires dropped a 7-6 overtime decision to the Kitchener Rangers in Game one of the Rogers Western Conference Championships. On Saturday, he scored one goal in Windsor’s 5-2 loss to the Rangers on the road in Game two of the series and he finished the week with a two-goal performance en route to being named the Penalty Box’s Third Star of the game as the Spitfires lost Game three of the series to the Rangers 5-3 at the WFCU Centre.

Henrique, a 20 year-old native of Burford, Ontario, was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the third round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He is in his fourth season with the Windsor Spitfires and scored 38 goals with 39 assists for 77 points with a +38 plus-minus rating in 54 regular season games during the 2009-2010 campaign. Henrique’s +38 rating was tied for eighth best in the OHL this season and his 38 goals had him tied for 12th in the OHL in goals scored. In the 2010 post-season, Henrique has scored nine goals and added four assists for 13 points and a +4 rating in 11 games.

This past January, Henrique represented Team Canada at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Saskatchewan and helped Canada earn a silver medal in the tournament. He was also a member of Team OHL at the 2009 SUBWAY® Super Series games in Windsor and Barrie, Ontario. He scored the game winning goal in the OHL’s first game of the series, as he led Team OHL to a 5-2 victory over Team Russia on November 19th, 2009 in Barrie. Additionally, he participated in the 2010 OHL All-Star Classic as a member of the Western Conference All-Star team in Kingston, ON on February 3rd, 2010.

The defending 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup and OHL Champions will take on the Kitchener Rangers tomorrow in Game four of the Rogers Western Conference Championship Series in Kitchener. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Fans can follow each Spitfire home and road game on AM800 CKLW and TVCOGECO (Cable 11). The Windsor Star is also offering a live blog online for all Spitfire games at windsorstar.com

Spitfire fans are encouraged to wear red for each Spitfire home game during the playoffs as part of the Spits “CODE RED!” theme for the 2010 OHL Playoffs.
