(Windsor) Defenceman Ryan Ellis is the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week as selected by the Spitfires coaching staff for the week ending Sunday, April 4th, 2010. In two games last week, Ellis scored one goal and added five assists for six points, while posting a +3 plus-minus rating as he led the Windsor Spitfires to a 2-0 series lead over the Plymouth Whalers in the Western Conference Semi-Finals of the 2010 OHL Playoffs. This is the third time in the 2009-2010 campaign that Ellis has secured the team’s player of the week honour.
On Thursday, Ellis scored one goal and added two assists with a +1 rating en route to being named the Penalty Box’s Third Star of the game in Windsor’s 5-1 Game one victory over Plymouth at the WFCU Centre. On Saturday, he registered three assists and was a +2 as the Spitfires defeated the Whalers 5-3 in Game two on the road in Plymouth.

Ellis, a 19 year-old native of Freelton, Ontario was selected by the Nashville Predators in the first round, 11th overall at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Ellis was selected as the OHL’s Defenceman of the Month in February, 2010. He was also named as the captain for Team OHL and led the OHL to a perfect 2-0 record in the 2009 Subway Super Series games hosted in Barrie, ON and Windsor, ON earlier this season. He was also selected to serve as an assistant captain for Team Canada at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Saskatchewan and helped Canada earn a silver medal in the tournament.
