Calvin de Haan and Ryan Ellis to Captain Team OHL in SUBWAY® Super Series

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with the Ontario Hockey League today announced the players that will represent Team OHL as Captains and Assistants for the 2010 SUBWAY® Super Series games to be played in London on Thursday November 11 and in Sudbury on Monday November 15, 2010.

Two members of Canada’s silver medal winning National Junior Team Calvin de Haan of the Oshawa Generals and Ryan Ellis of the Windsor Spitfires will each Captain Team OHL with de Haan leading the squad in London and Ellis serving as Captain for the game in Sudbury. Kingston Frontenacs’ defenceman Erik Gudbranson and forward Ethan Werek will each serve as Assistant Captains for both games of the series, while Owen Sound Attack forward Garrett Wilson will be an Assistant in London, and Windsor Spitfires’ forward Zack Kassian will serve as an Assistant in Sudbury.

Both de Haan and Ellis are Captains of their respective clubs and represent the only current OHL players eligible to return to play for Canada at the 2011 World Junior Championship in Buffalo, New York. de Haan, a 19-year-old from Carp, ON, was selected in the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft 12th overall by the New York Islanders. He is competing in the series for the second straight season. Ellis, a 19-year-old from Freelton, ON, Captained Team OHL to two wins last season in Barrie and Windsor. The Nashville Predators prospect selected 11th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft is competing in the series for the third straight season.

Frontenacs’ teammates Gudbranson and Werek both return to play for Team OHL for the second straight season. Gudbranson, an 18-year-old from Orleans, ON, was selected third overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers, with Werek selected by the New York Rangers in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, 47th overall. Wilson, a 19-year-old from Elmvale, ON, will suit up with Team OHL for the first time on Thursday in London. The Florida Panthers prospect is among the OHL’s scoring leaders with 29 points in 17 games. Kassian, a 19-year-old from LaSalle, ON, returns for his second straight SUBWAY® Super Series when he suits up in Sudbury after recently signing a three-year entry level contract with the Buffalo Sabres who selected him 13th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The 2010 SUBWAY® Super Series is supported by CHL associate sponsors, Bank of Montreal and CCM. All games will be broadcast nationally on Rogers Sportsnet with the two QMJHL games shown on RDS. The games are also available live on webcast at http://www.sportsnet.ca/.
