2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup, Round Robin Game #2 versus Calgary Hitmen
- With tonight’s 6-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen, the Windsor Spitfires, defending 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup Champions have a perfect 2-0 record in round robin play and have advanced to the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship game for the second consecutive season. The Championship game will be played on Sunday, May 23rd at 7 pm EST and will be broadcast live on Rogers Sportsnet (Cable 54 in Windsor) or fans in the Windsor area can listen to the game live with Spitfire Play-by-Play Announcer Mike Miller on AM800 CKLW. The Windsor Star will also offer a live blog for fans at windsorstar.com
- Windsor will play their final round robin game as they take on the Moncton Wildcats tomorrow night in an elimination game for the Wildcats at 8 pm EST.
- Windsor has now won six consecutive MasterCard Memorial Cup games, dating back dating back to last season as Windsor won four consecutive games in the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup on their way to the Championship. The Spitfires are also currently on a 10 game winning streak during this year’s playoff run.
- Forward Taylor Hall scored two goals and added one assist tonight as he was named the first star of the game. This was his second consecutive multi-goal and multi-point performance of this MasterCard Memorial Cup, he was also named the third of Windsor’s opening game against the Brandon Wheat Kings as Windsor won 9-3. Hall leads the tournament in goals scored (4) and in points (5) in two games played.
- Forward Dale Mitchell scored one goal tonight and was selected as the game’s third star. He has scored one goal in each of Windsor’s two MasterCard Memorial Cup games. Mitchell is tied for second in the tournament in goals scored (2) and in points (4) in two games played.
- Forwards Kenny Ryan, Justin Shugg and Adam Wallace scored one goal each for the Spitfires tonight. Ryan has scored one goal in each of Windsor’s two MasterCard Memorial Cup games.
- Goaltender Philipp Grubauer made 25 of 27 saves to win his second consecutive game of this MasterCard Memorial Cup and he has been the starting goalie in each of Windsor’s ten games during their current playoff winning streak. Grubauer has a 2.50 Goals Against Average and .917 Save Percentage in two games during this tournament.
- Eight different Spitfire players have scored goals in Windsor’s first two games of the tournament (Hall, Wallace, Ryan, Shugg, Mitchell, Kassian, Henrique, Timmins) and ten Spitfires have enjoyed multi-point games to this point (Hall, Fowler, Timmins, Henrique, Mitchell, Kassian, Cundari, Nemisz, Shugg, Wellwood)
