THE WINDSOR SPITFIRES ARE BACK-TO-BACK OHL CHAMPS

The Windsor Spitfires swept the Barrie Colts as they defeated them tonight 6-2 making them the OHL champions for the second straight year.
Barrie started the game just like they needed to in front on the Windsor crowd. Luke Pither put the puck in early. But Cam Fowler answered back with a goal of his own which would bring the Windsor fans back on their feet and cheering.

The second period was owned by Windsor. Taylor Hall capitalized on the power-play giving the Spits the lead. But once again the crowd would be silenced as Matt Kennedy scored. But it was absolutely all Windsor from here. Fowler scored his second from the point. He slid into center ice for his goal celebration as Windsor slid into the lead. Then Adam Henrique buried one to end the period.

Scott Timmins scored one in the third as Hall scored in the empty net to secure their championship. For the final three minutes fans stood in front of their seats screaming and yelling waving their white towels while they watched their team soar into another OHL championship. Over 20 minutes following the game, fans were still their yelling their loudest and applauding the Spits. Every Spit that held and kissed the Robertson Cup afterwards, was cheered for. Looking onto the ice with confetti falling and players in red yelling and hugging and celebrating was an amazing site to see.
The Windsor Spitfires were one game away from being knocked out last series against the Kitchener Rangers and made a run of eight straight wins to comeback against the Rangers and then sweep the Colts.

Harry Young, Windsor Spitfire Captain tells in Play! about what a great team he has and how it was a big part in their comeback.

“This is a resilient group of guys. We showed it last year, we showed it again this year. It's the character in the room You can knock us down but you can't keep us down.”
Coming into this series, this has been the first time that I can remember this year, where the Spitfires were considered under dogs.

Hall, Spitfire forward explains to In Play! how they over came that feeling.
“We really relished that under dog role. We knew that if we can come in and steal game one and just go from there. Grubauer played well, our defense chipped pucks out and our forwards scored goals when we needed them to. Everyone contributed.”

Know with the OHL season officially done, the Windsor Spitfires will compete in the Memorial Cup tournament featuring all the other Canadian Hockey League's best teams where winner will be crowned the best junior Canadian hockey club. The Memorial Cup will start on May 14th.
