Monday October 5, 2009

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Adam Henrique of the Windsor Spitfires is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 4. Henrique led the league in scoring with eight points including five goals and three assists while producing a plus-minus rating of plus-3 in three games.

Henrique capped off a three-game weekend Eastern Conference road trip with his top performance on Sunday with three third period goals to lead the Spitfires to a 6-3 win over the Kingston Frontenacs. Named the second star of the game, he netted his first goal just 30 seconds into the final frame to tie the score at three, and later scored the insurance marker at 15:14 before completing the hat-trick at 17:18 of the period to solidify the win. His week began with a goal and an assist in a 4-3 loss to the Ottawa 67’s on Friday night, before tallying a three-point night on Saturday in the 5-4 overtime win against the Belleville Bulls scoring one goal and two assists.

Henrique, a 19-year-old from Burford, ON, is in his fourth OHL season with the Spitfires. He is currently tied for third in league scoring with 14 points following a 2008-09 campaign where he scored 30 goals and 33 assists for 63 points in 56 games, and finished tied for the tournament lead in scoring with nine points at the MasterCard Memorial Cup in Rimouski, QC. He was selected in the third round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils.

Also considered for the award this week were Cody Lindsay of the Ottawa 67’s and Tyler Seguin of the Plymouth Whalers. Both forwards recorded seven points including five goals and two assists in three games. In goal, Mark Visentin of the Niagara IceDogs made 101 saves in two games while posting a 2.01 goals-against-average and save percentage of .960.
