Anthony Luciani's fourth goal of the night came four minutes into overtime, as the Erie Otters escaped the WFCU Centre with a 6-5 win in Game Five of their opening round series with the Windsor Spitfires on Friday night.
Early in the third period, the overage winger had given his club what looked like a commanding 5-2 lead. But goals by Kerby Rychel (1), Jake Carrick (4) and Ryan Ellis (3) tied the game at 5-5 with a little more than three minutes to play.
Luciani shocked a crowd of 5,945, picking Ellis' pocket as he veered out from behind his net before beating Jack Campbell (25 saves) at 4:03 of the extra session.
The Otters built a 4-1 lead in the second period with a power play goals on three consecutive Windsor penalties.
Ramis Sadikov made 50 saves in goal for Erie, who now return home to host Game Six at the Tullio Arena (Sunday, 4:30).
Adrian Robertson (1) and Alexander Khokhlachev (3) had the other goals for Windsor.
Phil Varone had a goal and four assists for the Otters.
Windsor leads the best of seven series three games to two and can clinch the series with a win on Sunday.
