SPITFIRES TRADE DUININCK TO SARNIA FOR THREE PICKS

Windsor Spitfires General Manager Warren Rychel announced today that the team has traded veteran defenceman Craig Duininck to the Sarnia Sting in exchange for Sarnia’s 2nd round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Draft, Guelph’s 5th round pick in 2012 as well as Sarnia’s 14th pick in 2012.

“I’d like to thank Craig for everything he’s done for the Spitfires Organization,” said Rychel. “He’s a solid player and a stand up citizen on and off the ice.  Obviously this is a part of the rebuilding process for Windsor and we hope this trade will help him have the chance to win another Memorial Cup.”

Duininck currently has 3 goals and 5 points this season and a career total of 39 points in 141 games played in Windsor. Craig also helped the Spitfires win their second MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship in 2010.

CLARKE DOES THE TRICK FOR THE SPITFIRES IN LONDON

It was quite a homecoming Friday night for Spits centre Michael Clarke.

The London native had three goals and an assist, leading the Spits to a huge, 5-2 win over the Knights at the John Labatt Centre.

It was Windsor's first road win of the season. And it came at the expense of a previously undefeated London club ranked number one in the country. 

Craig Duininck and Kerby Rychel had the other goals for the Spitfires (4-3-0-0). Rychel's was the game winner, his 7th of the year on his 17th year. 

Jared Knight and Vlad Namestnikov had the London goals. 

Jack Campbell was outstanding again in goal for the Spitfires, making 38 saves for his fourth win in as many starts this season.

The Spits are back at it Saturday night, when the Oshawa Generals visit the WFCU Centre. Gametime is 7:05.

It's easy to get overshadowed when you share ice with the best junior hockey defenceman of his era. But outside of the Ryan Ellis spotlight, Craig Duininck has quietly made a name for himself in his second season with the Spitfires.

Logging top-4 minutes, Duininck had a typically strong three-game stretch last week, earning him the Tecumseh and South Walkerville Vision Centres Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week honours for the period ending March 6th.

In addition to some outstanding play in the defensive zone, Duininck also chipped in offensively with a couple of big points.

He had the opening goal of the game in Windsor's 4-3 win over London at the WFCU Centre on Thursday, March 3rd and a key assist on Kenny Ryan's shorthanded goal, in a 4-3 shootout win over Guelph on Sunday, March 6th.

The 6-foot, 201-pound native of St. Cloud, Minnesota has seven goals and 14 assists in 61 games this season, ranking him 48th among OHL defencemen.

Duininck, 17, is the 116th ranked North American skater in his first year of draft eligibility, according to the midterm rankings released earlier this season by NHL Central Scouting.
