WINDSOR SPITFIRES AGREE TO TERMS WITH TOP PICK VILARDI

Kingston native brings size and skill at centre

General Manager Warren Rychel has announced the club has reached an agreement on a standard OHL player agreement and education package with forward Gabriel Vilardi.

The 15-year-old native of Kingston was the club's first round pick, 2nd overall, in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection back in April.

"We're extremely pleased to get Gabe in the fold," Rychel said. "He has a bright future as a Spitfire and he'll be a special player for years to come."

Vilardi says he's looking to make an immediate impact.

"I think I have high expectations," he said. "I want to help the team do well this year. Make the playoffs. Hopefully do well in the playoffs. I can see myself putting up a lot of points in this league in the next two years. Hopefully get drafted." - Windsor Spitfires, News, Schedule and Seating

Spits Beat Rangers Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

Evan Mathias / In Play! magazine

Four different Spitfires scored goals
lifting Windsor to a 4-1 win over the Kitchener Rangers in front of
4,640 at the WFCU Centre Thursday night.

Windsor (22-28-1-1) held a 2-1 lead
through 20 minutes on goals from Markus Soberg and Cristiano
DiGiacinto; who had the eventual game winner.

“We came out flying, we finished
flying,” said DiGiacinto. “In between the periods coach
(Boughner) was telling us ‘to just keep doing what we’re doing,
don’t let up’ and I really felt like that got to Kitchener.”

Spitfires score five but Owen Sound Attack score more.

Evan Mathias / In Play! Magazine

A slow start and finish cost the Windsor Spitfires two points as they dropped a 7-5 decision to the Owen Sound Attack in front of 4,291 at the WFCU Centre Thursday.

It took Windsor (21-25-1-1) nearly six minutes to register a shot on goal. Owen Sound (21-16-2-7) had seven shots and a goal from Holden Cook by that time.

“We’re spending way too much time in our own end,” said Spitfires head coach Bob Boughner. “There were so many shifts that were long shifts, that we looked like we got caught in our end.”

Josh Defarias scored two goals
including the game winner as the Sarnia Sting doubled up on the
Windsor Spitfires 6-3 in the back half of a home-and-home set Sunday
night in front of 5,447 at the WFCU Centre.

Despite outshooting the Sting 7-2 early
on, the Sting took a two goal lead thanks to Defarias and Anthony
Salinitri.

“Couldn’t solve the goaltender
(Taylor Dupuis), he gave us problems all night,” said Spitfires
head coach Bob Boughner. “We had glorious chances, outshot them,
outchanced them. The frustrating part is we couldn’t get the next
goal.”

Trevor Murphy (1G, 1A) cut the lead to
one late in the first period, beating Sting goalie Dupuis (41 saves)
while extending his point streak to 12 games.
